Is Animal Testing the Only Option? Tuesday, December 01, 2009
Is animal testing necessary? Is it the only way to guarantee that your goops, globs and goos won’t hurt you if swallowed, sniffed, slapped on your skin or smeared in your eyes? No! There are other ways in which your cute furry friends will not have to suffer the cruelties forced upon them from, perhaps, the day they were born.
In the past, the concern with not testing animals was that the products may not be safe for human use, and so the only way was to test out all of our nasty products on animals. Daniel Congrave from San Joaquin Delta College supports animal testing, saying, “How else are we going to make sure that our products we’re putting all over ourselves aren’t going to burn off our skin, scalp or that third blade isn’t going to cut us?” Well, Mr. Congrave, you’ll be happy to know that now there are other ways to make sure that our products are safe.
One of these ways is by testing on donated human body parts. Environmental agencies say that animal testing isn’t even 100% safe, since there are often times errors. And so eventually animal testing will be eliminated, because it will not be needed. Until then there is something you can do to show your support against animal testing -- read labels and don’t buy animal tested products! It’s not that tough. Trust me, you can live without your favorite make-up and shampoo. There are a million animal-friendly products out there just calling your name, and if we all do our part, hopefully animal testers will get the idea.
