Why do you play your fall sport? Tuesday, October 20, 2009
We all have our own strong suits and talents, such as music, art, or sports. Do we show these talents because we feel we should or do we actually enjoy the activities that show our excelling attributes? There are many talented students at Ashland High School but the one that seem to attract the most attention are the fall athletes. Most of the students enjoy the sport they play for different reasons.
Football is the most popular sport in the fall and many star athletes have been on the team. The hard work and effort they put into each practice and game shows they’re dedication and they enjoy it. When asked why he plays football, Kevin Schilling declares, “It’s a challenge for me and it always gives me something to work on. I do it because I love playing football.”
When the subject of school spirit arises, cheerleaders come to mind. There is a lot of pressure put on them to bring energy to the student body. Heather Rasmussen and Cassy Braught, key cheerleaders on the squad, say, “We cheer because it’s our passion.”
Cold windy days on the lake and choppy waters are all aspects of the crew team. To me this does not sound enjoyable, but Taylor Patterson, a member of the crew team says, "I'm doing Crew basically because it’s laid back and soccer was too time consuming."
Of us who play fall sports, the reasons we play are for different reasons. Generally, why would we do something voluntarily that we don’t enjoy? One thing is shared; we do enjoy the fall sports we play.
