Poetry from Dick Streng's sixth-grade class

| Some of Mr. Streng’s students at AMS have recently written poetry in their sixth grade classroom. These selections are specifically from his INC class, a group of advanced readers who are working refine and build up their writing skills. One of Mr. Streng’s favorite parts about teaching poetry is “It is causes creativity, word play, creating images, expressions, and emotions that can be expressed in many different forms.” Snow Day Hard rain, slowly falling and turning white, Showering the ground to blanket the earth, Everything is blank, as bird’s wheel in flight The world is hushed, and waiting for new birth Willows groan as cold wind fractures their icy fingers The ice cracks beneath you as you lift your feet high A wisp of vapor from open lips, warmly lingers Long tears hang from roof tops, as if they trickle from an eye Small people hurry from frigid arctic storm Crisp winds penetrating the thermal globes Children, like locusts, feel the piercing cold as they swarm Fuzzy hats cover small heads and peeping red earlobes.
